This is a budget-friendly, Pinterest-worthy DIY Harry Potter room decor idea that completely elevates your space and leaves guests genuinely in awe. Whether you’re planning a Harry Potter Halloween party, a themed birthday, or just want a cozy magical vibe, this DIY delivers

And trust me, after many trials and errors, I’ve figured out the easiest, fastest way to do this so you don’t have to. I’m sharing all the items I used, and everything I learned from this DIY so that your process is much quicker and more magical. Now before we begin, turn to page 394.

Everything You’ll Need for the DIY Hogwarts Ceiling

• LED Flameless Taper Candles with Fishing Line (with remote)
• LED Light Strip
• Cotton Batting or Pillow Stuffing
• Gorilla Contact Adhesive
• Artificial Snow Roll
• Tacks

Before You Begin ✨

Warning, this DIY can get messy fast. I highly recommend laying down a tarp or newspaper, or even assembling your cloud sections outside to avoid getting adhesive on your floors or furniture. Step 1: Place Your LED Lights

Learn from my mistake:
❌ Don’t cover your entire ceiling in poster board first (it takes forever).

Instead, prepare the base of your masterpiece by strategically placing the LED lights on your ceiling. The Govee LED Light Strip comes with ready to stick adhesive to make placement easy. Something to keep in mind when choosing your LED light strip is to make sure it has a lightning effect. This adds a bit of drama and completes the Harry Potter vibe. If it doesn’t come with the lightning preset, most LED light apps allow you to create your own effect. Use the light strip to cover the desired area. I opted for 2 sets of the LED light strips laid in a zig zag pattern to maximize the light effect.

Step 2: Assemble The Clouds

Instead of the pasteboard, which I used to avoid spraying the clouds on the actual ceiling. I found that it was much faster to unravel a strip of the artificial Snow Roll, lightly spray it down with Gorilla Contact Adhesive, and add quickly add the cotton batting to the strip. Once it’s assembled to your desire, it’s time to attach it to the ceiling. Safely grab a ladder and the tacks to affix the freshly assembled clouds to the ceiling. Repeat this process until all of your clouds are in place. I was very liberal with the tacks and we’ll see what my landlord has to say about that when and if I move out. But truthfully when it comes to the take down any holes left behind can easily be covered with a mending kit.

Hot tip: The snow roll can be easily stretched, which helps cover more surface area quickly. So don’t be afraid to stretch

Step 3: Add The Candles

It’s now time for the crowned jewel of this DIY. Carefully unpack the candles to avoid tangles and insert the batteries if needed. Use the tacks to affix the fishing wire attached to the LED Flameless Taper Candles to the ceiling. Stagger the candles throughout the ceiling and place them at varying lengths for added effect. Don’t place them too low or your tall guests may get un unwelcome candle to the face.

⚠️ Pro tip: Don’t hang them too low, your tall friends will not appreciate a candle to the face.
